Recording English language competence (ELC) results
Uploading student information
The School Curriculum and Standards Authority’s database (SIRS) will default to show a student has attained ELC if the student has achieved one or more of the following:
- A ‘C’ grade or better in any unit of English,
- A ‘C’ grade or better in any unit of Literature or
- A ‘C’ grade or better in any unit of English as an Additional Language/Dialect, excluding 1A and 1B.
RTP and MAZE schools
The recording of the English language competence standard has been provided in the RTP and MAZE software. Questions relating to this should be directed to the appropriate RTP or MAZE help desk.
Schools other than RTP or MAZE
The record format for student registration and demographic information combined file for schools using Microsoft Excel can be found on the School Curriculum and Standards Authority website here. Sub-section 5.2.3 contains the record formats for student registration and demographic information combined. The field (column BF) indicating English language competence (ELC) standard is part of the student registration and demographic file (SRGDG). When a school uploads this file to the School Curriculum and Standards Authority database, SIRS will be updated with the ELC standard.
